In case you did not read the Newsweek article on eating disorders here you go!

Now I have to say I am grateful to see something out there regarding this huge issue in our culture yet I was somewhat surprised at the focus of the comments….many were more worried about calling blacks black and whites white than focusing on the fact that they are all equally at risk for running into an eating disorder and that their male counterparts were also much more at risk than they may have previously thought.

I guess I should not be surprised as one of the reasons ED is as prevalent as it is is because of the lack of focus on the problem and the never ending circle dancing with a multitude of distractions and excuses instead.

Curious? Try a look at the gurze website for a plethora of information and suggestions on what to read. Awareness is not just the answer for the dear one suffering with an eating disorder but is is also the way for those who interact and live with them.

Awareness, watching what we are doing with curiosity -what a concept, what a way to make a change in your world!

Be well!

Aloha,

Aloha!

What an incredible and shifting afternoon!

Having heard of the amazing shifts that take place during Family Constellation Therapy Work I immediatly said yes to my daughter’s request that I join her as representatives as a man goes through the process.

Little did I know just how much I was going to be participating. Without going into a lot of detail I was fully immersed into a family constellation that I can only call collective….what else could it have been that would have touched me so deeply and fully?

Being picked by the man who was doing this work to represent his mother -I was both honored and nervous. The love, entanglement and conflicts I felt were common and able to be resolved by understanding and incorporating the “orders of love”.

We all have this in common -we have all been given life by these two people we call parents -we all share this amazing thread that can weave a beautiful tapestry once we clearly see our place in this constellation.

While I have much myself to process around this I wanted to share the idea with you and offer the opportunity for you too to say Yes!

woman on Holosync

While there are many ways to stay stuck in a situation or unhealthy life pattern one of the most prevalent I see in my practice is black and white thinking. Many hold on to this thinking as if it were a life raft while in reality it is a lead weight dragging them to the bottom of the ocean floor. Not easy to see and not easy to let go of that which they believe is real and right.

So why I did not connect these dots sooner I don’t know but Bill Harris and his Holosync program is able to shift without effort…well effort is required such as sitting still with headphones on but when you look at what is usually required to change a strong belief Holosync is almost effortless. So check out Bill Harris and enjoy!

This is a wonderful practice for many of my clients, I am looking forward to getting them tuned in.

Aloha! Gina

”Start by doing what’s necessary, then what’s possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
-Saint Francis

How many times have you looked at a life goal or a project and felt totally overwhelmed. Impossible it feels just plain impossible to get there from here. This is the challenge -the thought, not the goal or the project as big as it might be -but our thinking.

Saint Francis seems to have summed it up quite nicely:

Start by doing whats necessary…

This alone speaks volume to me-star-just that alone will get you somewhere! Then by doing what’s necessary -well of course you say. Yet I for one have done almost anything but what was necessary when it came to a project. You must know the drill-the taxes are due and all the paperwork is lined up in front of you and you decide to color code the file tabs so next years files are even better organized than this years. Now color coded files are pretty and may even be helpful all year as you file paperwork but today the taxes are to be done and no amount of color coding will help.

…then what’s possible…

I find this is where the juice begins to flow. Hands dirty form the project and the feeling of no turning back sets in-a deep breath and maybe a little rest but the focus is on the path and all that is possible. This alone-what’s possible- is enough fuel to keep me up at night burning the midnight oil. Incredible amounts of work are accomplished in this state and fatigue seems to have lost my address.

…and suddenly you are doing the impossible.

I hope you are with me on this part of the equation because this really is it! This is where all the magic happens- you are just plugging along doing what’s necessary. Then seeing what’s possible getting all excited and deeply in tune when what seems like suddenly and out of nowhere it happens -the big break, the wind fall, the person who can move you forward by leaps and bounds -that you didn’t even know existed, appears and you are doing the impossible!

Big Mahalo to Saint Francis for saying it so simply and reminding us how miraculous every day is.

Visit me on the web

This quote by John Ruskin seems to really fit the toil happening here in the blogging communities. All of us here writing our blogs knowing it is not about what we get for it but who we become. The act of writing is a big act of becoming and writing on a public forum and writing again and again is becoming even more quickly.

So who is it we are becoming and what is this drive to become it? Why are we not simply doing whatever our personal doingness is? There is an unmistakable quality of giving I have noted on many of the blogs I have read. People giving of themselves to the vast unknown and for some of us to no one until at some point someone reads our posts.

So tonight I have a grateful feeling for the blogging world. A world of all walks of life reaching out into the dark web space putting out their best ideas or just their current ideas letting them unfold and evolve into their best-becoming their best because of the act.

The metobolic power that is. Yes we really do slow down or metabolism when we are stressed. No wonder so much difficulty keeping the fires burning this is a stressed out time. While this is not new information I wanted to call your attention to someone who says it so eloquently.

Marc David writes wisely and profoundly in his Slow Down Diet calling us to focus first on how to eat before we even ask the question what to eat. I think Marc is right on and I will be recommending this book to all my clients.

To be honest I was ready to hang up my nutrition hat for a while as I did not want to be caught up in the food fad ism   and supplement cure alls- it seemed many people looked to me for just that kind of information.

Wishing you peace and Aloha~

Thinking about what could be the common thread of dissatisfaction I encounter with people and their diets it appears to be a lack of pleasure. Now what kind of fun is that?  If shopping , cooking, eating and cleaning up after the whole thing could be pleasurable it would add a whloe lot of juicy feelings back into the day.
Wondering what the aversion to the whole process was I realized I see a lot of clients aho are just not in to  any part of the whole thing and just want a pill to take once a day so they can get on with their lives. Well as it stands the eating process is not going away any time soon so perhaps we can all chip in and find ways to keep it alive and pleasurable. The benefits will amaze you and the pay off is immediate.

Eating in a hurry (otherwise know as stress) adds a huge biochemical burden causing many of our current ills. If I told you that eating while relaxed burned more calories I bet you would first not believe me but second you might -just for the heck of it give it a try -by the way it’s true.

OK so relaxing at the dinner table  is not exactly something you can make the family do but you can sure set them up for success by being the first one at the table to chill out.

“No time” you say. This is absolutely true. No time. So just let it go -there is only this moment and we choose in each moment the quality and tone of that moment – no matter how chaotic things are around us.

You will be eating anyway so choosing at the next meal to make the moment of each bite a place where you relax can be life changing and at the very least pleasurable.

Aloha~

Ate-ate-oh ate!

This is what I hear over and over and it is usually with fear, anger and or remorse. My clients comment on what they ate , what they are afraid they ate, how much they ate. There is a huge body of fear around food and what it does to us, or even more painful what our minds tell us it does to us.

I wanted to take this very first post to throw out the question How do you feel about what you ate today?

Let me have the details if you are willing. What you ate and how you felt about it. Was it enjoyable or leaving you filled with fear and the remorse of a binge?

With so much riding on how we look in this society it is no wonder so many have an obsession to either eat and purge or eat only enough to “keep body and soul together” as my mother used to say. Others are so filled with disgust over the possibility of gaining fat or dare I say cellulite they simply must somehow purge the offensive food. If this sounds like I stretch I ask you to keep an open mind as it may be someone close to you living in this nightmare and the more you know the sooner those with full blown Eating Disorders and those simply on their way to one can be seen and heard. The cry is silent as a big part of them does not want to be heard, to be found out and have the life coping skill they have so neatly honed taken away.

Do you have someone in your life you have had concerns about around their food ? The combinations of symptoms and disguises are many and easy to dismiss yet if you have ever had a concern about another or perhaps yourself I am here to tell you that putting the concern out in the open where you can take a good look at it is the beginning to the road to recovery.

Aloha!
